How carry out I find a general introductory webinar on LGBTQIA+ health?
Learners that are unused to the topic are encouraged to begin their training with a general introductory webinar on LGBTQIA+ patient-centered care from the National LGBTQIA+ Health Teaching Center (Education Center). We suggest starting with:
Achieving Health Equity for LGBTQIA+ People (2020): In this webinar, Dr. Alex Keuroghlian discusses LGTBQIA+ concepts and terminology, highlights the relationship between stigma and LGBTQIA+ health disparities, and describes finest practices in effective information, data collection, and creating an inclusive environment. Internal Trainings
Facilities wishing to create their have training are highly encouraged to reference the instruction LGBTQ Cultural Competency Trainings created by a national panel of experts in a process co-led by the National LGBT Cancer Network and Whitman-Walker Institute. This best practices instruction provides a clear roadmap for designing a roomy range of trainings, includes guidelines for selecting the best training methods, and provides a clear evidence-based foundation for developing evaluation tools. Most importantly, it offers a simple setup of adaptable building blocks to design a top-notch LGBTQ+ cultural competency development, all based on measurable goals of changing facts, attitudes, and behavior in health and human service providers.
Many healthcare facilities operate with either their local LGBTQ+ Center or their statewide LGBTQ+ organization on their LGBTQ+ health equity and cultural competency trainings. We encourage you to reach out to these organizations to see if they provide training or can consult with you on the development of your own inter

The US gay lexicon has developed in extraordinary ways, as it is both designed for visibility and must sometimes hide in plain sight; both broad (“queer”) and specific (“aroace homoflexible demigirl”); both changes rapidly and has a long history. This session will explore topics such as microlabels and label abolitionism, gender non-conforming label policing, nonverbal communication and “signalling”, and online vs in-real-life queer tradition. We will also use a critical lens to realize the ways in which queer culture and labels are impacted by colonialism and white supremacy.
