Which ones the gay ear

?? about getting ear pierced...

Import1

Ok…kind of a dumb question, but not any worse than some asked here…my 15th anniversary is coming up…my wife and I are going to Ft Lauderdale for 4 nights…I am normally a clean chop professional type…I mind about getting one of my ears pierced for some ‘bad boy’ kinda fun with her…my question is which ear? and what is the general t-vixen feeling about this, is it kinda ‘bad boy’ sexy? or is it kinda wierd? if I undertake it, do I get a petty hoop or a stud? Thanks and I hope this isn’t too stupid…

To answer the first part, generally speaking the left ear is the norm. When I was in school, it was accepted that if you had the “wrong” ear pierced (in the case the right one) you’d be called a fag an mercilessly teased. Personally, I possess two in my left ear, and one in my right, as adequately as tongue ring.

Next thing: If you want to pierce your ear, go for it, but don't undertake it to attain any "bad boy" image. Earring--or piercings in general--as skillfully as tattoos, are far too shared to be rebellious. Hell, every kid I know has an earing, and very few of them are "bad boys." Most are very conformist actually.

How did having piercings in the right ear become associated with homosexuality?

Obeseus21

I remember in the early 80s that left ear was straight and right ear was same-sex attracted, though I knew several guys who had just their right ear pierced, and they weren’t lgbtq+. There reasoning was that they wanted an earring, and they didn’t need it showing in their left ear in case they got pulled over by a cop.

Antinor01:

That’s not an urban legend, there is a well defined color code to signal just about every fixation and left side means you like that obsession as a top/active (depending on fetish) and right is bottom/passive. It’s not used as much these days, but it’s not even remotely legend.

Most of these stories I gave as much credence as the “smoking banana peels” thing, which IIRC was a joke that some people did not find , so they tried to smoke peels. (Probably the placebo effect).

Similarly, I saw the argument that most motorcycle gangs were mostly modelled on Marlon Brando’s film “The Wild One”, a case of experience imitating art imitating existence. I wonder if a lot of this sort of hanky/earring folklore was a case of people following what they “heard” was supposed to be true.

Serious Interrogate About Guys Wearing Earrings

If a guy (mid-20s to mid-30s) wears pierced earrings in both ears, does this express he is gay???

I have no idea...but it would be GREAT to listen that the retort is "Yes." ;)

Otherwise, I need to do some very polite backing away from a neighboring neighbor (who is actually a kind and sincerely approachable guy...but also: someone I would never be interested in even if he were straight).

I don't know if the earrings are a "I am lgbtq+ and proud" utterance, or a declaration of Millennial direct positivity towards gender neutrality.

Re: Stern Question About Guys Wearing Earrings

It can only be assumed that he likes earrings, really. Favor I'm a linear guy who wears my hair longer than most women.

Re: Serious
which ones the gay ear

Right ear, right queer?

David Babby explores the mystical and idiosyncratic world of piercing etiquette.

On a particularly grey, drizzly Saturday morning my friend set off to get her ear pierced. The decision had been made the darkness before amidst several other similarly serious lifestyle alterations.

The money had been counted out. Support had been garnered. After much intense discussion, the prettier nostril was identified and noted.

I was a bit late and arrived just as my friend was being lead in to a back room. The woman in charge of her had a wonderful few piercings, which was reassuring, and there was a crumpled bag of Meanies in the bin which showed that this was a fun place to work.

“So,” I said, leaning against the door, “Which nostril is the gay nostril?” To be honest, I reflection I’d been post-gay hilarious, but piercing lady was not much impressed. “There is none,” she said drily and reached for her marker.

What I had not realised at the time was that my friend’s sister had already asked the matching question before I’d got there and got a considerably terser response along the lines of: “That is ignorance. There is no gay nostril. If you are gay, your whole nose is ga

How did having piercings in the right ear become associated with homosexuality? It’s something I’ve heard for a long period and never questioned it until now. Whenever I see a guy with an earring, I instinctively check if it’s left or right out of curiosity.

When did this association become prevalent? Where did it come from? Does it vary by culture?

engineer_comp_geek2

Not only does it vary by culture, which ear is the “homosexual” ear varies from region to region in the U.S. In the northern WV, eastern OH, western PA region where I grew up, left was the “straight” ear and right was the “homosexual” ear. I think that’s the more common version, but I’ve met plenty of people who said it was the other way around in their area.

I don’t remember earrings for men being very shared in the 1970s. There were some hippies wearing them but that was more of a demonstration of social norms than anything else. I recall hearing about the one earring means homosexual thing in the late 70s so it dates endorse at least until then. A lot of the punk rockers of the late 70s sported earrings. It
