2 oz Supergay Vodka, 2 oz Tomato Juice, 1 oz lemon juice, Tabasco & Worcestire Sauce, Salt & Pepper, celery stick for garnish. Mix Vodka, tomato juice, and lime juice. Mix in tabasco, worcestire sauce, salt, and pepper to desired taste. Add celery stick for garnish.

Most people delight in having a cocktail now and again. They make you feel a bit sophisticated, in an easy going and merry way, while getting you adorable damn tipsy. Personally, I love an evening enjoying some cocktails with buddy while chatting and people watching.

However, active in a cocktail bar has given me an insider perspective on how other people view cocktails, namely twenty to thirty something men. Some people; mainly straight men, consider certain cocktails/drinks to be inherently linked with the masculine and feminine. This I can understand. Often cocktail bartenders will illustrate certain drinks as being more feminine in style because they are illumination and floral, or masculine if they contain smoky, earthy or strong spirits but they act not, or shouldn’

On a recent Saturday darkness, Oddly Enough is packed, with hoards of aspiring guests huddled on the rainy sidewalk hoping to gain entry. Inside, a celesbian and her entourage are tucked into the corner booth adjacent to a wooden bar helmed by a bartender dispatching spritzes in an apron declaring their pronouns (they/them). At first glance, nothing would necessarily differentiate this space from any other trend-forward New York cocktail bar—only this one is unapologetically queer.

In the Before Times, the concept of a chic queer cocktail bar felt like it existed only in fiction, relegated to Hollywood sets or dedicated LGBTQ+ nights at ally-owned venues. Now, the elusive space is a reality: A surge of creative, cocktail-focused homosexual spaces are popping up across the country. “Announcements of the death of the LGBTQ bar are premature,” says LGBTQ historian Nikita Shepard. “They carry on to be centers of culture and performance and refuges for many people who don’t find online and virtual connection fulfilling.” In other words: The queer bar is gone, long live the homosexual bar.
