Workplace LGBTQ discrimination can possess many negative impacts on both employees and businesses. For employees, this type of discrimination can manage to feelings of anxiety, depression, and isolation. It can also affect a worker’s ability to perform their job effectively. In some cases, LGBTQ discrimination has even resulted in physical violence.
A recent survey from the UCLA School of Regulation determined that 46 percent of LGBTQ workers have faced employment discrimination. Nearly half of the workers surveyed reported they had received unfair treatment because of their gender identity or sexual orientation, including existence harassed at work, excluded from company events, passed over for a occupation, or denied a promotion.
This unfair treatment can acquire adverse mental and physical effects on employees. For example, one Canadian study concluded that unsupportive work environments led to poor mental health among LGBTQ people. These problems can be directly related to physical issues like fatigue, headaches, and digestive problems.

As LGBTQ+ History Month begins, our brand-new research has highlighted the extent of workplace discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ people in the UK.
The statistics come as the new US administration has rolled back federal commitments to DEI programmes, and threatened future action on secret companies.
The research shows that:
- Two in five (39 per cent) LGBTQ+ employees still feel the demand to hide the fact they are LGBTQ+ at work
- Over a third of employees (36 per cent) have heard discriminatory comments made about an Homosexual colleague
- More than 1 in 4 Homosexual people (26 per cent) experienced negative comments or behavior from customers or clients because of their identity
- 12 per cent of Homosexual employees believed they were fired or dismissed because they are LGBTQ+
- Nearly a third of Gay employees (31 per cent) did not agree they could be themselves at work. Of these, 53% have experienced discrimination, such as receiving verbal or physical abuse, or feeling excluded
- Three in ten LGBTQ+ employees (31%) wouldn’t sense comfortable

Almost half (47 per cent) of UK Gay employees say they have experienced discrimination or prejudice at work as a result of their sexuality or gender identity, research by Randstad has found.
The global study surveyed more than 2,000 members of the LGBTQ+ community in seven countries, and evaluated progress and the challenges faced by the people in the workplace over the last five years.
In the poll 38 per cent of Queer individuals said their sexuality or gender identity had an impact on their pay, and a quarter (27 per cent) claimed that the discrimination they faced at function had become worse in the past five years.
Two in five (39 per cent) said they felt more isolated in their jobs than they did five years ago.
