Brazil: Netflix told to extract film depicting Jesus as gay
A judge in Brazil has ruled that a film depicting Jesus as gay must be removed from the TV streaming service Netflix.
The film, The First Temptation of Christ, infuriated fervent Christians in the country.
Two million people signed a petition calling for it to be axed, and the movie company was attacked with Molotov cocktails last month.
In the ruling against Netflix, the judge said: "The right to freedom of expression... is not absolute".
However, the ban is only temporary while a concluding decision is made.
Why has the film caused uproar?
The parody clip, which was run as a Christmas special, was created by Brazilian YouTube comedy group Porta dos Fundos.
Many of the country's conservative Christians were angered by the portrayal of Jesus bringing residence a presumed boyfriend to meet his family.
On Christmas Eve, a community attacked Porta dos Fundos's office in Rio de Janeiro with fire bombs.
One man suspected of having been part of the attack has fled to Russia, and Interpol are working to arrest him.

Police are investigating a fire-bomb attack on the Rio de Janeiro office of a production company behind a controversial Christmas special aired on streaming service Netflix.
The episode, by comedy group Porta dos Fundos, depicts a gay Jesus bringing a boyfriend house to meet his family.
More than 2.3m people have signed an online petition to remove the film.
A video circulating online appears to show a far-right religious community claiming responsibility for the attack.
In it, a group wearing ski masks and identifying itself as the "Popular Nationalist Insurgency Command of the Large Brazilian Integralist Family", materialize to attack the production company offices with Molotov cocktails.
A statement, read with a digitally disguised voice, criticises Netflix and describes the film as blasphemous.
It also includes flags with nationalist and fascist connotations, Reuters news agency reports.

On Wednesday, a court in Rio de Janeiro ordered Netflix to stop showing the content in Brazil. Netflix has criticised that decision for censoring YouTube comedy group Porta dos Fundos, which produced the special in which Jesus is portrayed as homosexual.
On Christmas Eve a group of hooded men attacked the headquarters of Porta dos Fundos with Molotov cocktails.
No-one was hurt, but police said they were investigating the incident as an attempted homicide after a group claimed responsibility in a video including a far-right religious statement.

Netflix is in steamy water with many conservative Christians over a fresh Brazilian Christmas comedy unique called "The First Temptation of Christ," which depicts Jesus as gay.
Nearly 1.8 million users have signed a Change.org petition for the 46-minute, Portuguese-language particular to be removed from Netflix. The petition also calls on the Brazilian YouTube comedy group Porta dos Fundos ("Back Door"), which made the particular and has made similar ones for a decade, to be "held responsible for the crime of villainous faith." The distinct first premiered on Netflix Brazil on December 3.
Netflix declined to comment, but pointed Business Insider to Porta dos Fundos' statement:
"Porta dos Fundos values creative freedom and humor through satire on the most diverse cultural themes of our society and believes that freedom of phrase is an essential construction for a democratic country," the group said.

A judge in Brazil has ordered Netflix to stop showing a "blasphemous" Christmas special that depicts Jesus as a gay man.
Rio de Janeiro judge Benedicto Abicair issued the ruling in a response to a petition by a Brazilian Catholic organisation which argued The First Temptation Of Christ film had hurt the "honour of millions of Catholics".
The ruling is valid until another court orders otherwise.
The film depicts Jesus returning home on his 30th birthday and suggests he is a homosexual.
The Netflix special was produced by the Rio-based rigid Porta dos Fundos, whose headquarters were targeted in a petrol bomb assault on Christmas Eve.
No one was hurt in the attack, and a video circulating days later on social media showed three men claiming responsibility.
Porta dos Fundos has defended its film as legitimate release of expression in the face of anger from religious groups.
