What’s the straightest video game genre? It’s first-person shooters, isn’t it? Whether you’re thinking of the hyper-masculinity in Battlefield, the sheer sexlessness of Master Chief, or slur-laden Call of Duty lobbies, these games are all aggressively straight, and incredibly insular.
Whether you’re somehow perceived as being gay, you commit the ultimate sin of being a girl and speaking on the microphone, or you’re just bad at the game, it’s not unlikely that you’ll hear a barrage of abuse from fellow players. They’re gamers, you’re not. You may own to prove your gaming credentials, beat their K/D, or perform almighty feats of carrying just to be accepted, and even then it might not be enough. These are games for straight guys, and anyone else who might enjoy clicking heads isn’t allowed in their special club.

It's something that makes those that possess been silenced or taunted feel heard and acknowledged in a world that's turned them away for far too long. The month of June is for Pride, and that's as true for video games as it is for other parts of the media. So how inclusive is our favorite battle royale?
'Tis the month of Identity festival, and here at EarlyGame, we wanted to take a deep-dive and verify up on the LGTBQ representation in our favorite games (all the more important now that recent research has shown 1 in 5 gamers are LGBTQ). While some games do a very poor employment of inclusivity, we're happy to establish that Apex Legends is not one of them.
There are 6 confirmed members of the LGTBQ community in Apex, and a further 2 who are heavily implied as being so. That's 9 out of 26 characters, so about 38%. Not bad, huh? Anyway, let's examine out the voice in Apex!
