US singer-songwriter heartthrob Omar Apollo has dropped the harmony video for new ballad Ice Slippin, inspired by the moment he came out as gay to his family.
Ice Slippin is the lead single from Omar’s upcoming EP, Stay For Me, which will be out soon.
The lyrics of the heartfelt ballad reference heartbreak and rejection. The beautiful music video features sentimental clips of Omar’s family home movies.
Those scenes of him as a child are juxtaposed with him as an adult, nude and alone and surrounded by ice.
The musician himself explained Ice Slippin “is about reliving the thoughts I had passing through my soul the winter I came out to my family.”
“Receiving cold judgement as opposed to the acceptance I felt I deserved,” he recalled.
“This song is a reflection and reaction of all the emotions I had to face before and after I decided to leave the icy streets of Indiana.”
Omar Apollo’s new EP is out on October 6. He said the new free will contain songs he holds “very close.”
The singer-songwriter’s career exploded in 2022 after he released his debut retro-soul and R&B album Ivory.

In an interview with V Magazine, Apollo, 26, explained that he is currently “in a weird stage of making better songs every day.”
He continued, “I’m trying to make the finest version of what I can make at this point in my being. It’s been maybe six, or seven months now that I’ve been tapped into ‘album, album, album’, and nothing else.
“I’ve reached a really focused feeling now when I proceed to the studio. Fancy , it feels like it all makes sense. The music seems better. The words are coming out easier. Everything’s going really well.”
When it came to the theme of the new album, Apollo said, “I’m kind of enraged. I’m more angry on this album. I infer that’s what I could say [about it]. A lot of the songs are leaning toward anger.
“I’m just pissed off (laughs). It’s not that deep,” he added.

Ever since Omar Apollo first began to release music in 2017, LGBTQ+ fans have resonated with his music. In songs like 'Bi Fren' and 'Kamikaze', Omar openly sings about queerness, fluidity and falling in love with men.
