Pride Month in Augusta to celebrate LGBTQ with celebration, celebrations and more
Sunday is the official beginning of Pride Month, a period dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the achievements, struggles, and contributions of the LGBTQ community.
Locally, Augusta Celebration Weekend will be noted later in June, which also marks a crucial moment in the queer rights movement – the Stonewall Riots.
In 1969, a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a queer bar in New York City, sparked six days of protests and forceful clashes in the neighborhood, according to the website History.com. The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the Merged States and around the world, according to the website.
Locally, organizers have designated June 26-28 Augusta Identity festival Weekend.
Here are some of the events planned in the Augusta area to celebrate Pride month.
