Miami International Film Festival Names Winners

The Miami International Movie Festival has announced its honorees, with Uruguay’s So Much Water taking abode the Knight Grand Jury Prize.

The fest sponsored by Miami Dade College boasted 138 films from 41 countries, and celebrated its 30th edition this year. It opened March 1 and runs through Sunday.

”What a great way to usher in the next 30 years of production magic. We are just getting started as we celebrate the milestone of the festival’s first three decades” said Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón, president of Miami Dade College.

KNIGHT IBERO-AMERICAN COMPETITION:

· Knight Grand Jury Prize: So Much Fluid (Tanta agua), produced by CTRL Z FILMS, Uruguay, by Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge (Uruguay/Mexico/Netherlands), will receive $15,000. If the film’s sales agent, Alpha Violet of France sells the film to a US distributor within 30 days, that US distributor will also receive $15,000. If not, the additional $15,000 will be added to CTRL Z FILMS’ prize.

Ventana Sur: Uruguay’s Mutante Cine Sets 2016 Slate (EXCLUSIVE)

MONTEVIDEO – Uruguay’s Mutante Cine, a key Latin American arthouse hub, has fix a rich six-title 2016 slate, led by new films from Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge (“So Much Water) and Adrian Biniez (“Gigante,” “El 5 de talleres”), as founders Fernando Epstein and Agustina Chiarino tackle two of Latin America’s hottest-button industry issues: Pan-regional co-production and training.

One of Latin America’s most persistent co-producers, and lead producer with Brazil’s Bananeira Filmes on Lucrecia Martel’s upcoming  “Zama,” REI Cine, race by Benjamin Domenech, Santiago Gallelli and Matias Roveda, will co-produce out of Argentina “Aleli,” also written by Guevara and Jorge.

Mutante Cine is in negotiations for Germany’s Komplizen Film, a “So Much Water” producer, to also form “Aleli.” Project has won support from Uruguay’s ICAU production agency for maturation and production and Argentina’s INCAA Film-TV Institute.

Cinco años han pasado desde que Karla Guevara inició un camino legal y personal para lograr que su nombre y género sean reconocidos en su Documento Único de Identidad (DUI). Cinco años de sentencias, apelaciones, puertas cerradas y vulneraciones que hoy se resumen en una sola palabra: resistencia.

En medio de un país que aún arrastra estructuras jurídicas y sociales poco sensibles a las realidades trans, Guevara se ha convertido en una voz seeable. No solo por la denuncia pública de su caso, sino por su capacidad de transformar el dolor en acción: ha iniciado la campaña #JusticiaParaKarla, la cual acompaña con conversatorios llamados “Si tú fueras yo” en diferentes zonas del país.

Su historia se remonta al año 2018, cuando, junto a otras tres defensoras de derechos humanos —Mónica Hernández, Bianca Rodríguez y Verónica López— interpuso una demanda para lograr el cambio de nombre legal. The task force was formed in September of 1997 to serve the needs of all Male lover Youth and their Allies in Santa Cruz County towards the goal of improving and celebrating the lives and accomplishments of our most precious people resource, our youth. Of equal importance to the Task Force is the support and improvement of Lesbian and Gay parents, brothers and sisters who raise non-gay children in Gay Households.
