The parade treks through the north side of the metropolis, ending near the intersection of Diversey Parkway and Sheridan Road in Lincoln Park, walking through some of the city's most vibrant neighborhoods.
The annual pride, which started as a protest pride in 1970 after the Stonewall Riots in New York City, has grown into the city's second-largest parade of nearly 200 entries, typically attracting more than 1 million people to multiple northside neighborhoods, particularly East Lakeview.

This year's parade theme is "United in Pride," which organizers say reflects the forceful spirit of unity, resilience, and love that defines the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
"For over 50 years, the Chicago Identity festival Parade has remained a powerful platform for representation, advocacy, and celebration," said parade co-coordinator Tim Frye. "In 2025, we mark not just how far we've come, but in the face of growing challenges, the strength we have when we upright together."
The parade steps off from Sheridan and Broadway (viewing begins at Grace and Broadway) and will then travel the 2-mile parade route south on Broadway; then south on Halsted; then east on Belmont; then south on Broadway; then east on Diversey to Cannon Drive.
