Same-sex singles meet on First Dates

First Dates will film its first same-sex couple tonight, something of a rarity in most TV dating shows.

Psychic medium Harry meets a remedial massage therapist who is also an intuitive healer, Ian.

“The gay dating scene is just terrible!” Ian laughs.

Reality TV has rarely played matchmaker for same sex couples, although Big Brother did include more than one gay male in the house on occasions.

Shopping for Love in 2007 did have same sex couples -of both genders- endorse in 2007 on Nine.

While Seven famously flirted with Playing It Straight the solo was female who was unfairly challenged by linear and gay males covertly hiding their sexual persona. Other programmes such as The Block and Australia’s Perfect Couple have previously featured queer couples already in relationships.

Later this year Nine’s Married at First Sight will also feature a same-sex “wedding” in New Zealand, to highlight the differences in marriage equality.

Kiss Bang Love coming to Seven also indicated it was open to same-sex attracted singles, but is yet to corroborate if any will appear.

First Dates airs at 9

"First Dates' first lesbian meet revealed something disturbing about its viewers."

"There was nothing that could have even made the date beat, like for me, it was just horrible. It was probably the worst date I’ve ever been on," she said.

"There was no connection, there was no spark, there was nothing."

The camera panned to capture the effect of such a cruel rejection. Renee's face fell and so did our hearts.

I was disgusted by Aimee's behaviour, but my disgust was nothing compared to what I felt when I looked at social media.

These are a limited quotes I found on Twitter:

"Aimee needs a excellent hard... steak."

"Please no more gay and lesbian dates."

"Surprise, surprise, the model isn't hungry."

"Lesbians are so miserable. Even on a first date."

I won't give you all the times the audience attacked Aimee, but I will supply you with a little collage I accidentally made in my camera roll while taking screenshots.

The amount of users who chose to attack Aimee - not for her behaviour, but for what she ate, how she looked, how she identified and what she did for a living - was truly disgusting.

Why can't an audience express their dislike without the personal insults? Is it

27. OMG this older Sicilian lady is nuts, I can't wait.

28. Also she looks weirdly favor Rachel Dolezal?

29. Did Caterina say desire is like the rumba or zumba? Either way I agree it's the dance of seduction.

30. "I love my gay friends but we're not getting married." Neither are your gay friends mate.

31. OMG observe at this guy in the suit.

32."I believe I hold arrived!"

33. I believe I was just a minute sick in my mouth.

34. Chris is about as greasy as his hair.

35. I cant wait to watch Chris and Caterina's date.

36. Oh my god Nicholas Nicholas has forgotten Dannii's name.

37. Dannii is a champion and I love her.

38. 100% want to be mates with her.

39. I touch very, very awkward watching Aiden and Emily.

40. God I hate this date.

41. Watching draw dry would be probably 1000 times more interesting.

42. She is 21 tho, literally what is she doing.

43. That eye contact between Chris and Caterina is INTENSE.

44. Sacred shit did he just say lubricate?

45. I don't grasp what's happening.

46. And why is he sitting SO Proximate to her?

47. "I love that vibration" - Chris says he's talking about house music but we all recognize he's not.

EXCLUSIVE: First Dates’ James Devlin was almost cast as a replacement groom on MAFS 2024

First Dates Australia bartender James Devlin was almost cast as a replacement groom on Married at First Sight Australia 2024.

ICYMI: The queer couple on the upcoming season of MAFS almost got canned after the original groom Simon Flocco quit the show.

Now, James has revealed that he was approached to step in as a replacement at the eleventh hour.

During his tell-all in episode 322 of the So Dramatic! podcast, he spilled that producers called him asking if he’d be interested in “going in as an intruder”.

However, after organism put on standby, they ended up choosing someone else.

“With what I do on First Dates, finding people love, I didn’t really want to be put on [MAFS] to be a relationship breaker-upper or an intruder,” he told host Megan Pustetto. And fair enough!

First Dates’ James Devlin says he hopes MAFS is ‘sincere’ when depicting gay couples

James also shed some insight on diversity in dating shows.

“I just hope for the sincerity of MAFS,” he said. “They do demand the
